11 December - Oatmeal Sand

Hi there. It's Sumari from EasyHealthyKids.com, and this week we have healthy chocolate donuts, pear salads, messy play and oatmeal sand!

The family: Fred is a headstrong 3 year old toddler boy, and Sarah is my sweet 11 month old baby girl.

Fred's favorite food of the week

Fred loves baked goods, and I love playing with my new mini donut pan, so these Chocolate Coconut Flour Donuts were a big hit with all of us.

They are made of healthy coconut flour and Stevia, so you can give it to your kids as a snack or, like I do, for breakfast. You can also bake these as mini muffins.

Sarah's favorite food of the week

Sarah is a big fan of soft fruits, and she ate almost all of the canned pears in this cucumber and pear salad. She only has 2 teeth, so she can't eat the spinach in the salad, but she enjoys the cucumber and pear.

The salad is: one pack of baby spinach, 1 cucumber, 1 can of pears, balsamic vinegar and olive oil to taste.

Cut the veggies and pears into smaller pieces if you like. Add the dressing as you prefer.

Fred's activity of the week

Fred wanted to play with "sand" and his construction vehicles again, so I just opened a bag of oatmeal, poured it into a bin and gave him his cars and scoops, and he loved it. Much easier to clean up than normal sand or flour.

Here are some more sensory bins ideas that are fun to do.

Sarah's activity of the week

This week at Playcentre I realized my Sarah is a messy play baby! She got covered head-to-toe in paint, and then she got wet and sandy in the water. Next I'll make this goop for her and the other kids at Playcentre since she loves messy play so much.
