Easy, Healthy Baby & Toddler Meals, Snacks and Activities

16 January - Back To School

Hi there. It's Sumari from EasyHealthyKids.com, and this week we have a special back to school edition (or to kindergarten in Fred's case).

This week we practiced kindergarten sight words, I learned how to pack a healthy lunch box, and I baked a new easy and yummy muffin for the kids. You'll also find an edible slime recipe, plus a yummy summer dessert.

The family: Fred is a headstrong 3 year old toddler boy, and Sarah is my sweet 1 year old baby girl.

Fred's activity of the week

Learning sight words is an important step to start reading. Once your kid head off to kindergarten, use this list to start teaching them sight words. You can also have them trace the word with a crayon or marker. Fred is really good with colors and numbers so I can't wait to see him progress with sight words.

Fred's favorite food of the week

This yummy dessert may take a while to freeze but it's a creamy dream. Fred loves stonefruit and ice cream so he adores this dessert. It's also great to make for special occasions or when you have company over.

Sarah's favorite food of the week

These banana oat muffins are so easy to make with just a few simple ingredients, and easy to eat too. Plus they include wholegrain oats which is a Mediterranean super food.

Sarah's activity of the week

Sarah loves messy play so this "taste-safe" slime is right up her alley and Fred will also enjoy it. It's taste safe and only contains a few natural ingredients that are easy to get hold off (no glue or starch).

Article of the week

It makes packing lunch boxes so much easier when you know how much of each food group to pack. This article about "Kids Lunchbox Ideas" has a guide on how many of which food groups you need to pack in a lunch box.

I forgot about dairy when planning Fred's lunch boxes, but after going through the guide I will definitely include some cheese or yogurt. The article also has a few ideas and nice recipes, I recommend you check it out.
